Opening words - 5 mins

BRANDON: The SolSeed Creed is a statement of the shared values that ground the SolSeed Movement. The SolSeed Creed asserts that life and that which sustains life is good and precious, and calls humanity to mature into its role as caretaker of SolSeed. The Destiny is the ultimate expression of what nurturing and protecting life means. Becoming worthy of and fulfilling The Destiny are the two ultimate goals held by members of the SolSeed Movement.

BEN:

We believe that:
The Destiny of SolSeed
is to take root amongst the stars.

SHELLEY:

Sol,
Terra,
you,
me,
we,
ALL,
are precious SolSeed.
As SolSeed's intelligent spark,
We are its caretakers,
We must fulfill The Destiny.
We believe that:
Our holy duty is to
embrace Self Love,
cultivate Empathy,
and pursue Wisdom,
so that our being honors SolSeed,
and our striving hastens
the fulfillment of The Destiny.
Self Love is motive.
Without Self Love,
Empathy and Wisdom are impotent.
I pledge to learn to love myself; to
become a person I cherish,
admire, and care for.
Empathy is transcendent.
Without Empathy,
Self Love and Wisdom are evil.
I pledge to cultivate empathy in
myself and others; to share and
demonstrate my concern for
others and for the growing life all
around me.
Wisdom is effective.
Without Wisdom,
Self Love and Empathy are feeble and capricious.
I pledge to seek wisdom; to honor
my past, to strive for the future, to
be open to new ideas and new
beliefs, and to share my wisdom
with others.
Through Self Love, Empathy, and Wisdom
we have come to know that:

ALL:

We are SolSeed;
Children of the sun,
Awakened by starlight,
Growing, nurturing, protecting,
We bring life!

Check in with everyone - 10 mins

Power Shift 2009

12,000 young adults

5 sessions of workshops and panels

    • Photo and Video Tactics (for political purposes)
    • The road to Copenhagen (climate negotions end of year)
    • Making the economy green for all (environmentalism about lifting up the least of us and upgrading blue color jobs to pay well)
    • Climate, creatures, and ecosytems (can't afford to be depressed)
    • Climate adaptation (communities that will be impacted and how to help them)

One sky (ben's thinking about doing some things with them locally)

Training on the day after

Lobby day ... hundreds of congressfolk getting visits from young people

Rally on the West lawn of the capital and a march to a nearby coal plant (currently shut down or about to be shut down ... perhaps in response to us) a mandate to move to natural gas

Serendipitously met some folks I haven't seen for a long time (nbrhood and pomona college)

Went to a meeting with a Jay In?

Visit with Aunt and Cousin ... couple of museums

Huge gatherings on the first two nights with great speakers

Wonderful to have so much mass (huge event) ... lots of talk about last chance ... if we don't get things shifting this year we're all doomed ... hard to deal with

If we don't start decreasing greenhouse gases we're not going to be able to avoid climate catastrophe ... there is a huge negotiation in December ... rally on October 24th (hopefully largest political action day in history)

Trying to stay committed ... figuring out what my next steps are going to be ... contacts and representatives in my district

Do you feel called to this work? More so since important folks said it's our generations calling (even though we screwed it up)

Closing words - 5 mins

Well, I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships lying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying and colors flying
All around the chosen ones.
All in a dream, all in a dream
The loading had begun.
They were flying Mother Nature's silver seed
To a new home in the sun.*
Flying Mother Nature's silver seed
To a new home.
- Neil Young, "After the Gold Rush"
*Let's assume this means "a place bathed in sunlight" rather than "inside a star!"
